Navajo National Monument – Solo – Shonto, Arizona

The last time I was in the area I drove by Navajo National Monument but didn’t have time to stop. I made sure I had the time on this trip
Historic Ranger Cabin
The sheer beauty of this area of the state takes my breath away
I sit and try to imagine the 125 people living here. The site was abandoned around 1300

Running total 139 miles toward 500 Miles in 2017
total elevation gain 200 feet

Hidden Valley – Group Hike – Moab, Utah

I travelled to Utah to camp/hike/mountain bike with And She’s Dope Too
The reason the trail is called Hidden Valley
I didn’t realize how challenging the elevation difference between Phoenix and Moab would be on my breathing
The snow-capped mountains in the distance are such a contrast to the blazing heat we were actually hiking in

Running total:  143.9 miles toward 500 Miles in 2017
total elevation gain 720 feet

Grand Staff – Group Hike – Moab, Utah

This hike had it all: awe-inspiring rock formations, lush greenery, and plenty of water crossings
I am absolutely fascinated by dead trees
I was careful to keep my feet dry on the way in and took pleasure in getting them wet on the way out
Desert landscape intermixed with water and greenery… the best of both worlds

Running total:  148.9 miles toward 500 Miles in 2017

total elevation gain 437 feet

Moonflower Canyon – Solo – Moab, Utah

I decided on one last hike on my way out of Moab, I’m so happy I did
Poor guy lost his tail
I was fortunate to have this amazing spot all to myself for a few minutes, allowing me to ground and reconnect with myself after so much stimulation over the weekend
Petroglyphs at the beginning of the trail, I didn’t find them until I finished

Running total 149.9 miles toward 500 Miles in 2017
