Hiking and Biking 500 Miles in 2017 – Week 29

Still on our road trip, this week consisted mostly of untracked wanderings through Cathedral Gorge State Park, more ghost towns, Capitol Reef National Park, and Lake Powell.  It was already too hot to hike with the dogs when we reached Cathedral Gorge and Lake Powell, and Capitol Reef doesn’t allow dogs on hiking trails, so these were mostly drive thru visits with occasional scenic pullout wanderings.

On the last day of our trip I was finally able to log an actual hike!!!  We arrived at the Petrified Forest National Park first thing in the morning, before the hell heat arrived.  The Petrified Forest is one of the most dog friendly parks I’ve ever been to, so we were able to hit the trail.

Petrified Forest National Park – Tawa Point Trail with the husband and dogs

So happy to be on an official trail again!
It just so happened to also be this guys birthday!

It wasn’t a long hike, during the cooler months my old girl is only good for about 2 miles and the heat drastically decreases her stamina, but it was a hike.  The first mile I’ve logged in over a month! Woo Hoo!!!

Hiking running total:  170.1 miles toward 500 Miles in 2017
Biking running total:  126.7 miles toward 500 Miles in 2017

We had planned for a two-week vacation, work issues only allowed the husband to take one week.  This left me with extra time off.  So after being home for only one day, I did what any respectable wanderer would do, I kissed the husband and the dogs goodbye and took off for San Diego!
