Silver Spur Meadow and Bonita Creek Trails – Chiricahua National Monument with a Friend

An evening hike after setting up camp
Two large fireplaces right along the trail, seemed odd until we learned they used to be part of the Faraway Guest Ranch.
This was exactly what I needed to start healing the hole left in my heart from the loss of my cousin the previous week
With the nearest town over 35 miles away sunset turns to pitch black very quickly. Oh but the stars!

Heart of Rocks Loop – Chiricahua National Monument with a Friend

Letting nature remind me of how small I really am.
Inspiration Point was a one mile side trip from the main trail recommended by the Ranger… worth ever single step!
The wonders of this park can’t adequately be captured on camera
We spent 9 hours hiking and exploring almost 11 of the most spectacular miles I’ve seen yet and only encountered TWO other people!

Running Total:  253.3 Hiking Miles

Fort Bowie National Historic Site – Solo

I finally ventured back onto the trail by myself after months of being too afraid of snakes to do so… it felt SO good!
So much history was packed into the mile and a half hike to the visitor center. That’s right, you had to hike, not drive, to the visitor center!
I’ve very much enjoyed hiking with friends all summer, but the kind of peace that completely fills my soul can only be achieved when I’m on the trail alone.
Once again I had this park almost completely to myself, the lesser known National Parks are quickly becoming my favorites!

Running Total:  257.9 Hiking Miles
Total Elevation Gain 656 feet
