Hiking and Biking 500 Miles in 2017 – Week 46

November 17, 2017 – National Take a Hike Day

Gray Fox Trail – White Tank Mountain Regional Park with the Dogs

I woke up with a headache and really just wanted to spend the day on the couch. But it was doggy date day and I didn’t want to disappoint my girls, so to the trail we went!
It was raining when we reached the trailhead, but we were there and the girls were excited, so we set out anyway.
Less than 50 feet into the trail Bertha got a foot full of cholla, luckily I hike with hemostats and was able to quickly get them out… and still we continued!
Despite our rocky start it ended up being a very nice and relaxing hike, and the rain actually felt quite nice!

Running Total:  281.7 Hiking Miles

Mule Deer and Wildlife Trails – White Tank Mountain Regional Park – Solo

I’ve only ever used one hiking pole. I have a friend that swears by two, so I decided to give them both a try. The jury is still out on which I prefer.
It’s finally cooled off enough in Phoenix that I no longer need an alarm clock to go hiking!
There is no substitute for being alone with your thoughts in nature.
If only there were benches at the end of every trail!

Running Total:  289.4 Hiking Miles
Total Elevation Gain 470 feet
